Museums

Lighthouse Texel
Lighthouse Texel: the only lighthouse in The Netherlands with a three side view over the sea. The lighthouse is located at world heritage The Wadden Sea and the North Sea. You can climb the historical lighthouse via a winding staircase of 118 stairs. Finally you can enjoy the breathtaking view. There’s no elevator and unfortunately dogs must stay outside.

Seal rescue and nature museum Ecomare
Ecomare includes a nature museum, a seal rescue centre, a sea aquarium, a bird shelter and the visitors centre for National Parc ‘Duinen van Texel’. You can watch the seals and porpoises from close by. You also get very close to birds, fish and other marine animals. In Ecomare’s nature museum, you learn a lot about the Wadden Sea World Heritage, the North Sea and of course Texel.

Texel War and Aviation museum
Texel’s Aviation and War Museum focuses on the history of aviation and Texel’s Second World War experience – fascinating issues, involving far more than you might initially think. Texel has a close affinity with aviation.
The exhibition covering 1940-1945 is particularly impressive. A central role is played by the so-called ‘Russian War’ on Texel, the dramatic uprising by Georgian soldiers conscripted into German military service.

Maritiem- en Juttersmuseum Flora
The maritime and beachcombing museum Flora is a museum in De Koog. Spread overe several spaces various beachcomber’s finds are exposed. Besides there is a focus on the pilotage and rescue system, shipwrecks and fishing.

Outings

Wadden ferry ‘De Vriendschap’
The home port of the ship ‘De Vriendschap’ is De Cocksdorp, next to beach pavilion Paal 33. It’s also the only boat that offers seal watching tours in this special en unique area of the Wadden Sea. When it is low-tide this ship is able to sail in between the sandbanks and approaches the seals very nearby. This trip takes about one hour. It is also possible to make a daytrip to the next Wadden island Vlieland.

The Texel Brewery
The Texel brewery was founded twenty years ago and is meanwhile embedded in the island. The brewery is located in the former milk factory of Oudeschild. Together with about 80 employees the company brews and sells 13 ‘special’ beers. The brewery has a tasting bar and a shop. After a reservation you can visit the brewery.

Texel Zoo
Meet the many inhabitants of Texel Zoo! Texel Zoo has over 40 different animal species and over 500 birds. The birds have their own garden where they are able to fly freely and where you can walk through. Also some other animals have their own living space here. Several times a week there are birds of prey shows. Let yourself be surprised by the birds that are flying low over you.

Nature

Nature reserve De Slufter
‘De Slufter’ is one of the highlights of nature on Texel. Here the sea and saline nature are in control. Because of the great amounts of food during the bird migration season many birds can be found here. At the end of July/beginning August ‘De Slufter’ starts getting purple and pink because of the blossoming sea lavender.

Novalishoeve
Novalishoeve is a special farm on the island of Texel. The stables, the production areas and the garden are a real voyage of discovery for your senses. Everywhere on the yard the doors are open. Curious? Visit us and discover how biologic farming works. In the attractive bar you can taste the best from field. Grains and fruit, we incorporate it all in our delcious products. The daily labour is in the hands of young people who need and deserve special attention. They process natural ingredients with love and attention. And that’s what you taste!

Kaasboerderij Wezenspyk
For over 35 years, cheese farm Wezenspyk has been making delicious cheese. Cheese farmer Anton Witte started making the classic Texel cow cheese. In 1983 the range was extended with the famous Texel sheep cheese and delicious goat cheese. The cheese of our farm is regularly awarded with prestigious prizes. This year, our new beer cheese received the Cumlaude Awards.
Take a look at the traditional and authentic cheese making process and follow the country path to the new Sheep Museum at the Wezenspyk farming fields. Taste the numerous typical and delicious cheeses in the farm shop and enjoy a cup of coffee or cheesefondue in our Cheese Café.

Pick your own fruit and flowers (Zelfpluktuin)
Between the end of May and the end of October you can pick your own fruit, snack vegetables and flowers here. Experience how, during the picking, crops grow and take a look at the bees and bumblebees who are buzzing around.
After your ‘picking experience’ it’s time to relax in the Tea Garden in the greenhouse or outside on the terrace.
The jams, lemonade syrups and dessert sauces are all home made.
